The Family Disease of Addiction
Often the effects of drugs & alcohol are far-reaching, permeating into areas you might not have expected while you were drinking or using. The effects of growing up in a family with substance abuse can remain undetected for years and become expressed in ways that cause the very problems in your adult life that you tried so hard to avoid from your dysfunctional childhood. If one or both of your parents were substance abusers, you may find your problems are growing increasingly unmanageable such as serial relationship failures, divorces, chronic anxiety/depression, low self-esteem, obsessions and compulsions continually plaguing you despite your best efforts to avoid these problems. You also may have found that when you have sought help, the pain of your problems provided only short-lived relief. We know that unless you are treated for your unique childhood traumas related to exposure to substance abuse during your childhood development, that often-traditional therapy does not address those legacies of growing up in a drug and/or alcohol addicted home.
What you will learn in our family Drug & Alcohol Treatment:
- Defensive behavior patterns may be blocking you from love & belonging.
- Feelings of guilt & shame may be preventing you from enjoying "down time".
- You may be suppressing fears of abandonment, unhealthy dependence & insecurity with dysfunctional patterns of relating to others.
- You may be unknowingly reacting to others by people pleasing or controlling.
- Your false "defensive" self may be blocking you from the integrity of your authentic self.
